BBQ Race Series 2018
SPECIAL FORMAT FOR MAY 13, BBQ SERIES #2
The club is putting on a big Mother's Day event and all of our race officers are engaged, so dropping the BBQ Race #2 was discussed.
Then, realizing there are a number of racers who have this on their calendar, we elected to offer an informal BBQ race using a format similar to the Venture MacGregor Fleet races:
Entry: No charge, if you haven't raced in our series, come by SMWYC office between 12 & 1 PM to give us your name, boat type, sail number, PHRF or Corinthian Rating, and class A or B.
If have raced with us this year, come by CRIMSON STAR in the main channel (can't miss it, Red boat) and Laurie will try to record your entry from channel 71.
Start: Between Yellow B Buoy and the double cement pilings next do Del Rey Hotel in main channel
Start times: B Fleet, 1430 (2:30 PM), A fleet 1435 hours
COURSE #1: Sail up Main Channel staying within the sailing area, (between the "NO SAIL" buoys). The line between the “NO SAIL” buoys on either side of the channel is considered a “continuous obstruction”. Proceed out the North Entrance to "SS" mark (yellow spar), rounding it to port. Return through the South Entrance, to the Main Channel (stay between the no-sail buoys) Round the first center channel marker (starting at USCG station) to port and proceed to the finish line keeping all center markers to port.
COURSE #2: Same as above except skip “SS” mark. The detached breakwater is windward mark.
COURSE #3: Same as above except windward mark is furthest seaward “No Sail” buoy before shoal markers and south entrance to breakwater. Round to port and return to “Sail area” (exception to briefly enter the motoring lane to complete the jibe).
COURSE #4: Same as above except sail to “S” mark before return to main channel.
Finish: Same line as Start. Radio your approach finish 30 second in advance, then declare your finish time on Channel 71
After Race refreshments: SMWYC will offer the same discounted hamburgers with a ticket. Best deal in town.
Protests: There are none, this is an informal race! But you are free to yell at an offender.
This is our first time doing a radio controlled race, so keep your VHS on channel 71 in case there are any issues. (This is race notice #1 Thursday, May 9, 2018)
Hope you can join us on the water,
Vic's BBQ Series is a 5 Race Series designed for new racers and heavy slow cruising boats "B Class", and faster race boats with experienced skippers "A Class". Handicaps are adjusted after each race so even the last place boats get a chance for a trophy. A Class boats will be adjusted to a maximum adjustment of 15 seconds per mile per race.
The Race Dates are on Sundays
#1 April 22
#2 May 13
#3 June 24
#4 July 22
#5 August 19
There will be two starts. B Class at 1430 hours and A Class at 1435 hours each race day.
